Experian Updated???

I disputed an account on my credit with experian. I did it last week; I received and email saying it was updated, but when I look at the report nothing has changed. Can someone explain what has been updated or what it means?

The story behind the case is that I paid off a credit card in college and the rep on the phone entered the wrong numbers. Before I got off the phone she said the payment was posted and the account balance was $0.

I never got anything else from them. Then, a year later a got a letter from a credit collections saying I owed $738. I disputed this with them, but being in college I just paid and didn't put up much fuss about it. My credit report says "charge off" / "written off" by CITI in my report.

How can I go about getting this removed? I'm new, so please avoid using abbreviations if possible. Thanks!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I hate Experian. I am having an issue with them as well. Anyway, I strongly suggest you write a goodwill letter via planetfeedback.com and just sit back and wait for a response. Citi does look at pfb on a consistent basis and they will get back to you by either mail or phone. I've had some good experiences with them via pfb. Give it a try and see what happens. Try to be as sincere as possible and if you get rejected, try again periodically. Good luck.

Should I send it certified return receipt requested?

I just wen to the website. I see what you mean now. Is there a direct link to write a letter to CITI, or do you just post it anywhere?

If you paid this account off, then a record exists somewhere at CITI, I recommend that you write CITIBANK and request a FULL VALIDATION of all activity on your account. If you paid this balance off twice, then the records should show this also.

How did you pay this balance (each time)? Do you have bank records showing the withdrawals/payments? I am certain you can find documentation of your payments if you dig into it.

If you can produce evidence of your payments, I would then use this as leverage against CITI to remove the negative tradeline, I would get aggressive and state that they have violated Federal reporting laws, and "threaten" to sue, if not revised to your satisfaction.

I believe, but I could be mistaken, that are updating as they go, but possible will until the full 30 days is complete before it actully shows a change. I know as I went through my disputes, I would receive emails stating that accounts have been updated, but I found that they had a later date for the investigation to be completed. Maybe, I'm not completely sure.

I'm a huge proponent of sending everything Certified Article w/ Return Receipt Requested, however, with Citibank S.D. or USA, Planetfeedback is the way to go. I know that is counterintuitive to everything known but, with Citi it works in a matter of days.

To the OP, you should be able to enter a complaint for them on the PFB webpage. Outline your issue and I would bet it is resolved in a matter of a few weeks.

Citibank is one of the few creditors which actually comports with the FCRA (or at least gives it a good faith effort). Much of their general counsel had an integral part in writing the FCRA and the FACTA amendments thereto.

    They take it seriously . . .
