The phone is what ca's use to harass people the most.Do not waist your time talking to these people.You can't believe anything they tell you and they will not believe anything you tell them.If your state allows tape record every phone call if you find you can't avoid talking to them.
You can tape record in any state. They do it and claim it is for quality control purposes. They do it and don't even tell you. You should always ask them whether or not they are tape recording. If they say yes then tell them you are sure they won't mind that you are tape recording them too. They will often hang up instantly. Even in states where it says both parties must agree they still tape. FCC (Federal Communications Commission) says that you can tape so long as you do not play it to a 3rd party. Tapes usually aren't admissible as evidence but you can do a written transcription of what was said.
You might simply ask "Do you record calls?" while recording. It is a separate decision whether and how to use it, to transcribe, or whether it is of any value.
