Then how did you get hired? Most collectors have bad credit and/or file for BK. At least the honest ones do. The liars have Mercedes and million dollar homes on their $10 an hour paychecks.

I am new and this issue of "judgment liens" is a concern of mine. I have two vehicles (I owe $9200 on one vehicle with a "good" value of $7000, and the other I owe $15,500 with a value of $14000). The future definitely holds some wage garnishments and I can deal with this (I can live great since 75% of after tax wages are exempt in my state). In addition, the garnishment writs expire every 90 days and have to be renewed. I can see how a large creditor garnishment (could take months or years to eventually satisfy) can upset the garnishment apple cart for other creditors. LOL But, back to my main question, "Is it possible that a judgment creditor would try to take a vehicle that is upside-down with another creditor?" I'm currently paid up on all my secured loans, but am beginning to fall behind in the unsecured. I'm expecting it to take 8 - 12 months for me to get things worked out with unsecured creditors, and I given I am judgment proof (with the exception) of wages, I can see the car issue as the only potential problem.

They will just put a lien on any property/vehicles in your name. Im not sure, however, you see yourself as judgment proof? They already have a judgment and will issue writs every 90 days for 25% of your before tax wages.

Many comments ran through my mind for CG. However, I chose to refrain. After all, this is why we don't communicate with collectors. Besides, it is the collector who is surfing our board on their "day off."

Clarification for collectman. I did clearly state that "with the exception of wages" I am judgment proof: zero assets, zippo, nada, etc. In Oregon, wage garnishment is based on after tax wages. In fact, I also do contract work for my employer that cannot be garnished: this straight from our payroll officer.

    Garnishment

Once a garnishment has started (six weeks ago) is there anything that can be done to settle and/or vacate the garnishment? I live in NY. I don't know what to do. I've never had a garnishment before.

If you have access to cash you can always pay off the remaining balance of the judgment. Then the garnishment must end.
