Okay - so, I am wanting to negotiate an agreement on two judgments. I have the cash I am willing to offer, and am ready to play hardball. Thought I was all ready to go, and then I heard out here in the real world that I should demand that the settlement agreement include language that the creditor (or collection agency) will report the debt as "paid as agreed," and not as "settled." Any comments? Any other suggestions on negotiating a settlement? I am a bit suprised that among the form letters posted in here we don't have a settlement agreement, or, that I can't seem to find a kind-of "one-stop" posting of a sort of checklist of things that we would want to make sure we cover (or of "do"'s and "dont"'s) in negotiating a settlement. Help - and, THANKS!!! ~d
A judgment will show paid. You can try to settle it, depending on what the judgment was for and how much you are trying to settle for. Rarely have I seen a judgment settled for under 50-60% of the current amount of the judgment.
