Is CA being fair?

About a week ago I received credit alert with a new collection account on my report. I have not been contacted by OC or CA before that. To be fair I updated my address not too long ago to reflect my current residency but is it fair for CA to report collection account without contacting me first? I plan to send validation letter and additionally ask them to provide proof that they tried contacting me before. Am I doing this right?

If you moved without notifying the OC your new address, it is not the CA's fault they did not have a good address on file. They would have sent the 1st notice to the address given to them by the OC.

    Thanks for the fast reply.

Well I had my mail forwarded to my new address and I didn't get anything that way either. If I ask them to provide proof that they tried contacting me, do they have to respond to that?

They can tell you what day they mailed a notice and to where, but they are not required to. Call and ask what info they had/have on file.

They may or may not have sent any first notice. There is no requirement that they send any letter before putting an account on your credit reports.

In any case, you received any letters whenever you received them.
