I just pulled an updated version of my TU report and it has a new hard inquiry as of 4/5 from NCO Financial. What the heck does this mean. I don't have ANY more outstanding debt that should be added to my credit report. What should I do? I don't want to call them and open up a can of worms but don't want anything else added to my credit report. If they are looking does that mean they will contact me before adding something? What reason does a CA have to pull your credit report?

They have an account that they believe to be owed to their client from you. You can either call them and ask why they pulled your credit or you can send them a letter disputing the inquiry, or do nothing and see what happens.

Is contacting them a smart move or should I wait for them to contact me?

Depends they may have an old address on file for you and you may never get a 1st notice from them, and the account could be reported as in collections to your CR. I would certainly call and find out why they pulled your credit report with no apparent permissable purpose.

When I google the phone number associated with NCO it gives me the contact for NCO/Medclr - they were recently deleted from my Exp report. Could they be added the account to my TU report now? Is that legal? Plus the account with NCO was reported twice. It was a utility bill with 2 listing on my CR from 2 different CA. One agency was paid and the other was deleted by Exp because this was the only CRA that listed the debt.

So, in other words, NCO is reporting a collection account that you have already paid in full to another CA?

That is what I'm assuming. I haven't called them yet. But when I googled the number that is listed under the hard inquiry NCO/Medclr comes up but it is listed as NCO Financial on my CR. They were on my Exp report but was deleted because the same acct was being reported by 2 different agencies. One of them I had already paid so Exp deleted both of them. I can't for the life of me think of another reason that NCO would pull my CR. Before the account was deleted I myslef tried to locate the accout with NCO/Medclr but they could not find me in any of their locations or files. I then contacted Exp who after 2 days of investigating deleted the account. As I said I'm assuming this is the same NCO for the same account. I won't know anything until I contact them tomorrow.

Have you disputed the NCO account thru the CRA that is showing it on your reports?

Do you have documentation showing payment (cleared check) to the CA you paid?

Yes, I have a cleared check, a paid in full 0.00 balance from the CA that it was paid to and a copy of my bank statement.

I disputed it with Exp because that is where it was reported. NCO didn't appear on the other reports. They deleted it. I got an updated copy of my TU today and I see the hard inquiry from NCO as of 4/5/07. But I've recently received CR's from Exp and Equ and as of 4/14 there is no hard inquiry from NCO on either one of those reports.

You might notify NCO, CRRR, that you see they have an inquiry on your TU credit report, and you want to know why they pulled your credit report.

You might even include in your letter that you are disputing any alleged debt, requesting validation, and that they should reply only by mail, as phone contact is inconvenient.

Ok, that sounds good but since they pulled my credit on 4/5 should I be concerned that they are going to report something before the letter gets to them? My concern is that they are going to post a new collection account real soon since they pulled my CR already.

OK, just a thought BUT is it possible that NCO contacted me because I contacted them on this same date to get information on an account they had on my credit report? I called about 5 different location BUT no one could seem to find me in their system (with my name or SS#) so that is when I disputed it with Exp and they deleted it. Of course I gave them all this information before I found this board and read all the rights I had as a consumer :)

They might put a collection account on your reports whether you contact them or not, however, phone contact does little to protect your rights or permanently resolve any alleged account they may think they can collect.

They may still be trying to collect on the account you paid. Just because a CRA removed it, doesn't mean NCO will stop collection on it.

Regardless, if it's paid, you want to force the issue, and in writing in case you have to sue. At this point you have no collection letter from them, and no TL from them on your CR. The only evidence you have of their activity is their inquiry, so that is where you apply pressure. You are better off bringing it to a head, than finding out 6 months from now that the reason all your CC rates have been jacked is that they have had a collection TL on one of your reports all along, on an account you already paid.

NCO typically pulls as soon as they get an account.

The letter if they choose to continue after that pull is sent out typically that day, or the next day.

But, I would still contact them, in the least to dispute the PP for the pull, and demand validation for any account which they are claiming as the basis for the PP.

I did contact them and it was for the student loan that was deleted. Well one was deleted and the other was ok. It was reporting all TL accurate..........pays as agreed, no lates. I thought it was for something else. My student loan was also reported twice but not under NCO it was report as Dept of Ed and Direct Loan Servicing (deleted).

I'm going to write a letter to NCO but I don't know what I should say. Any suggestiong?

What is NCO doing with a student loan, if the loan is current, pays as agreed, no lates?

Or when you called them to ask about their PP, did they just pull your reports and give you a line of BS, using another TL, to cover their a$$e$? And since it is only verbal, you can't prove a thing.

The student loan was reported twice once by Direct Loan Servicing (this one was deleted by Exp on 4/4 the NCO credit pull was on 4/5) and also by Dept of Ed. Direct Loan was reporting it as a derog but DOE was reporting it as current, paid as agreed with no late fees. I have never been late or missed a payment. I dont' know anything about NCO and my student loan. When I called NCO the women (she was very helpful, even giving me the fax number to their corp office to find out why they pulled because they had no current open accounts) told me it was for my student loan with the original amount of the loan. I have only ever in my life had one student loan. The original date of the my student loan is from 1988 but I only started repaying it in
2000. I also sent a letter to NCO to find out why they pulled my report.

What does PP mean? I didn't call NCO until today. My report was pulled on 4/5.Exp deleted 1 of the 2 TL's on 4/4. The deleted Direct Loan because it was reporting wrong.

Permissible purpose. In order to legally pull your credit reports, they must have permissible purpose, as defined in FCRA.

If the account is paid as agreed, not late, and not legitimately in collection, they would not have permissible purpose to pull your reports. Their "out" is if it was sent to them for collection, even if erroneously.

Ok so I don't understand. It's being paid on time every month with no late fees ever, so why would it be sent to them for collection? What NCO and/or Direct Loan Serving was reporting was wrong that is why Exp deleted their tradline. They had it delinquent since 2001. I never saw NCO listed on my credit report for my student loan.
