Hi all, Can anyone tell me what OPT OUT will do? I've seen people insist on calling the number but I'm not sure what the result would be. I searched but it said there were no matches... Thanks for the info!
https://www.optoutprescreen.com/?rf=t If you choose to Opt-Out, you will no longer be included in firm offer lists provided by these four consumer credit reporting companies. If you are not receiving firm offers because you have previously completed a request to Opt-Out, you can request to Opt-In. In doing so, you will soon be among the many consumers who can significantly benefit from having ready access to product information on credit and insurance products that may not be available to the general public
PLEASE, people, pay attention to the source of the above information! He is a collector! He is feeding you a load of crap! OPT OUT! OR, your vital information can and WILL be purchased by Collection Agencies and Junk Debt buyers to find you, harass you, steal your money, call you at your employer, garnish your wages, and a lot more.... If you cannot see the biased information being offered in the above post, then you may be in for a surprise.... Yes, not opting out has advantages for people who cannot, or will not, search for decent credit offers on their own. For those who respond to the latest mailer for a poor credit card offer, there are advantages to not opting out. However, just because a snake provides anti venom for some people doesn't mean you want the snake in your child's bedroom at night! OPT OUT!
Yeah... I sometimes think collectman comes to this site for the same reason I listen to Rush Limbaugh... some days I just want to be ticked off. Thanks for the help!
Opting out does NOT prevent CAs and JDBs from pulling your credit reports. If they tell the CRA they have permissible purpose, they can pull your report. You might want to opt out to avoid junk mail, and to minimize your risk of id theft due to mail theft, or even because you want the CRAs to make less money, but that will have little effect on debt collectors. They can also tag your credit file, so that the CRAs notify them when certain changes show up, such as new addresses, new inquiries, etc. That also will not be blocked by opting out. If it turns out debt collectors are buying access to mortgage inquiry "trigger" lists, that may be another matter. Otherwise, there are reasons for reviewing credit offers from various lenders, to ensure that you are getting competitive terms on whatever credit you choose to use. As for security of your identity, the back door is wide open, and this will not change until there is wide adoption of fast and cheap credit file freezes, with sufficient usage (>50%) to actually lower the odds of opening fraudulent accounts, and tracking of blocked attempts. There is no technological reason for not doing this, but I don't see either the lenders or the CRAs supporting such a solution until account fraud gets several times more damaging than it is today, or until damages currently dumped on consumers end up costing lenders or CRAs.
Do a google search for OPT OUT, it's the first website that people goto, also it's a simple copy and paste. Who pissed in your cheerios?
