Hi, I called a collection agency that has an old medical bill, which I was unaware that I owed in the first place. I hope I did not make a mistake in calling them. They said that I could pay over the phone and they will delete the account from my Credit reports. BS! I wanted something in writing! They gave me the option of going to their office and paying in cash. The gal on the phone said they do not mail the agreement, but if I pay in person I will receive the agreement in writing. Should I do this??? I have the money. Also, I searched before I wrote this and read a tread that said that removing the collection items won't improve my score. Is this accurate? Thank you in advance, UL
If going to their office in person will get the account off your credit reports, then I would do it. As previously posted, MAKE SURE YOU GET SOMEHING IN WRITING! Removing a collection account from your credit reports "should" raise your scores, there are many factors here, such as age of the account, etc., but it should help your score.
