I had a credit card with TBN that charged off. I was contacted today by a collection agency saying that if I didn't pay it now it would be passed to a attorney. Being that this was a relatively recent co (this month) I went into the store and paid it off. If they do pass it off to a atty, have they violated any laws? If so do I have a chance of getting it deleted? Also I've heard that goodwill letters with TNB works pretty well. Anyone had any luck with that? If so does anyone have a contact?

First, did you receive any written notice from the CA?
Was this phone call the first contact from the CA?
Did the agent advise you of your rights?

I doubt this will get passed off to an attorney, but everything is null and void now as you have paid the debt in full. There may be some delay, and confusion, with the store processing your payment (it may take some time to catch it up to the CA).

Your only hope is to ensure that the CA does not report this to the Credit Reporting Agencies. It will depend upon how long they've had the account.

I do not know how TNB is with goodwill requests, others on the forum may have some experience.
