PFD letter send, got CA dunning in return... The debt is mine, I want to pay for less than owed and of course removal from CRA. What now?
Well, now you are in a negotiation setting, so lay out your parameters of what your objectives and acceptable outcomes are. Obviously your top goal is settlement for less, and removal of TL. So, offer this again, stating IMMEDIATE payment for this deal. Next, decide what is more important, settlement for less, or removal of TL. This will be our next offer. Obviously the CA wants $$$, and they will be motivated by a higher $ amount. If you decide upon settlement for less (w/o TL removal), then start setting amounts for payment (i.e. ideal settlement amount 30%, etc.) keep going until you have a "no way" amount (perhaps full amount). Many people advise not to speak with a CA, but in cases like this, I recommend telephone call to negotiate, BUT always follow up with a written "Letter of Agreement", do not pay until agreeable terms have been reached and documented (with the documentation in hand).
