I had trouble with 2 of my Chase accounts which were both sold to National Enterprise collection agency. I settled with them for both accounts and (finally) received letters stating that I have 0 balance. I pulled my credit reports today and this is what stands for my Chase card (actually for both of them, just different amounts) Status: Account charged off/Past due 180 days. $3,820 written off. $1,336 past due as of Sep 2007. What do I do in this case? First of all, the numbers are not correct (they probably sold that to CA but I paid more). Also, I have 0 debt (it's been more than one month now since I paid everything). Second question: I opened a bank account in Bank of America. I never asked to apply for credit card (I wanted a secured credit card). However, their employee told me (after I did not receive a card): "I know all the tricks of the trade and I applied for a credit card for you"! I was furious. Now it shows on my credit report and I don't know what to do (2 inquires!) Lord and Taylor: I had this account a while ago. I forgot about it and after getting a collection call I paid it directly to L&T, not a collection agency. However, the report says "Purchased by another lender" I have 4 wrong addresses in my address history. I don't know where they show in my credit report, i.e. none of the cards or accounts show which address they used. Also, I just saw that experian has the wrong birth date (day and month are correct but the year is wrong) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
For what it's worth, I just opened a checking account and a savings account at BOA as well, and they pulled my credit just to open those accounts. I think that's just BOA policy. The person who was working with me kind of glossed over it, but I was aware that they were going to do it. They also asked if I wanted to apply for a card at the same time and their big pitch was that it wouldn't result in an additional inquiry (because they pull my credit just to open the account). I'm in the middle of applying for a mortgage, so I specifically told them not to apply for a card, because I didn't want a new account until I get my mortgage. Brett
First, if your credit reports do not show tradelines from Natl. Enterprise, then consider yourself lucky! You have avoided at least two severe negatives on your credit reports. Next, the Chase account information appears correct, they are listing historical information. The account should say $0 balance due somewhere, since they sold it to a CA. As for dealing with this, we'll address that later on, there are some things you need to do first. The first question is, do you want the BoA card? If yes, then let the inquiries stay on your report. If not, then speak to a supervisor at BoA, and detail what happened. They will close the account, and probably delete the inquiries, but you will have lost the card. Most likely L&T forwarded the payment to the CA, so the "Purchased by another lender" is probably accurate, and will remain. But again, actions later... Okay, here is where we start: 1st) Make sure you have all three credit reports, if you haven't already, you can get them free at www.annualcreditreport. com Disp...may get lucky and some of these may fall off.
Thanks for the answer. I think the BoA is my least worry as of now. I will try to deal with Chase first. Is there any difference between dealing online and in writing (provided that I save all the disputes I do online)? If I dispute the Chase report, should I just say "Inaccurate, please delete" or use more detailed explanation?
There really is no difference, just keep all copies to prove your dispute. I would add a bit more detail (not a lot), just add "balance due amount incorrect, or "not past due as of Sept 2007". Keep it short and simple. Good Luck....
Thanks. I will do that. 2 credit reports show 2 L&T accounts (I just had one). One of them is something like R00987xxx and the other is 987xxxxx. What should I do with that? Say that I never had that account?
