I recieved a letter from FOCUS receivables management for my settlement of $1500 they only gave me 1 day to pay this amount otherwise my settlement will be null and voided. Shouldnt i atleast have 1 week to pay this and have an option on some type of payment plan...
First things first; if you just received the letter, then you have thirty days to dispute and request validation of the debt (for being your responsibility and accurate for amount claimed owed). Offering a "settlement" is a business option for a collection agency, they are not bound by any terms and conditions, until you mutually enter in a negotiated contractual agreement. They can offer a "take it or leave it now" settlement option. Send off a letter of Debt Validation Request, see samples here on this forum. Keep it simple and direct, and send Certified Mail Return Receipt Requested (CMRRR).
If this is your first dunning letter received from them, you make have a violation for over shadowing.
Sounds like a scam. Even within the same city a piece of mail could take up to two days to get from point A to point B. Did you call them back and ask them how the f...k they expect a piece of mail to get to them, especially if you live in a different city or state? If they suggest a "phone Payment" - you giving them your banking information, tell them to shove it.
