I am new to the whole credit repair thing, but I have read that I should try to get the old addresses deleted. On one of my credit reports, my current address is listed incorrectly. I plan to write them and, hopefully, have it changed. The question is, do I give them my street address or my mailing address? I don't want to accidentally verify any infomation, and right now they don't have my current physical address. They do, however, have a former physical address listed for my current address.
Credit reporting agencies list all your former physical addresses and mailing addresses that you ever had - within a certain time frame. My report still lists an address from 1985 - 22 years ago, and all the subsequent ones that I had since then. Trying to get old information deleted is a major pain.
That's what I've heard. I have read that it is not easy to do with any of them, but that Experian simply won't do it at all. Still, is it worth a try? I have heard that they often verify information using previous addresses, and since I have moved several times I wonder if it would make a difference. They also have my name wrong, and there are numerous other mistakes on the report. I know it's all about the money, but it really is ridiculous that they can report inaccurate information. My report's bad enough without it. Just starting out, the situation seems so hopeless.
It depends. Many have said that addresses and incorrect names are the easiest to remove. I'd give them whatever address you're using now. You might want to try something like "my current address is XYZ. Please remove all other addresses from your file" and see what happens. Sometimes this is easily done by phone.
State previous addresses are "obsolete" and that you wish them gone "in order to prevent unsolicited credit offers from arriving at locales which I no longer live." Works for Equifax and Trans Union (until an old creditor re-reports). Experian typically refuses to re-investigate.
Yup, Experian is bad about that. Tried to correct my address through the online dispute process. Their online comments: "We store address information as it is sent to us by your credit grantors or from public records. This address is historical information and will remain on file.
