Bank of America announced today bringing back the BankAmericard. Looks like a new "super" card to aim for...

    9:00 AM EDT Tuesday
    BofA relaunches BankAmericard
Bank of America Corp. has relaunched the BankAmericard.

The original BankAmericard credit card was marketed nearly 50 years ago. It was the first nationally accepted bank credit card.

The new BankAmericard Rewards Visa has no annual fee, spending limit or cap on earning points. Customers can redeem their reward points for travel, merchandise, cash, gift cards, charitable donations, and other items or services.

Beginning in early 2008, BankAmericard customers can direct their cash rewards into any type of deposit, savings, loan or brokerage account.

"Customers should expect simplicity, flexibility and unlimited benefits from rewards cards, and that is what we are delivering with the BankAmericard Rewards program," says Ric Struthers, North America card-services executive at BofA. "No gimmicks -- just choice, convenience and more rewards for our customers."

Charlotte-based BofA is one of the world's largest financial institutions. The company (NYSE:BAC) has more than 5,700 retail-banking offices.

I saw this yesterday. I guess I'm telling my age, but my first non-store, non-gas credit card was a BankAmericard.

But believe me, it wasn't when they first came out--I'm not THAT old.

I don't rmember when they became Visa.

But the old BankAmericard had the yellow, white and blue design that Visa still uses.

It's funny, but the bank I got it through is now BoA (after about five mergers and acquisitions).
