I have 3 chrged off accounts showing a past due and balance owed.
They have been sold to CA.

    Q. Are CRA allowed to show a balanced owed if they sold account to CA?

I am wanting to know if i should dispute this.

If they've been sold, they should show a zero balance, but the CA should show the account with the balance. If the CA is not showing, it's possible that it has only been assigned for collection and not sold. In that case, the OC could show the balance.

It should report as "paid" with a zero balance. Who were the entities to which the debts were sold? Initials will work fine for us to ascertain if they're debt purchasers.

The original accounts should show a status of "Charged Off", there should also be a notation "transferred or sold" in there also.

If the account has been sold to a CA, then it should also show a $0 balance.

If the CA who has purchased the debt has entered a tradeline on your credit report, then that entry will show the balance due.

You can dispute the original tradeline if it still shows a balance, most likely it will be updated to show the $0 balance.

The only exception to this would be if the original creditor is also acting as the collection agency for this debt.

I have chase and dicover showing a balance and charged off. I receive CA letters from Client services in MO.
There letters claim the above account has been placed with our firm for payment in full.

What's the best way to dispute these?

    Thanks

If you have recently received the CA letter, and it is within 30 days since receipt, send a "Debt Validation Request" letter requesting full validation of debt. See sample letter forum for templates, but keep it simple, and omit the "legal recourse" language. Make sure to send Certified Mail Return Receipt Requested (CMRRR).

When you have received the "green card" back, then dispute with the credit reporting agencies. If you feel there is incorrect information in the reported tradeline, then try a dispute of "Not Mine", if this is at all applicable.

I may think wisely about disputing any Discover tradeline. They are extremely litigious. Best case, they verify, worst case, they sue you.

Chase will verify most any dispute. They will likely sell the debt as well after sufficient time has elapsed.
