Read section 604 of the FCRA.

That being said, IMHO if they cannot validate/verify or provide a letter of assignment or bill of sale, then they do not have a PP.

For interesting reading on PP, read Pintos v. PCA.

Although reading the section could raise more questions than answer them...

Your question, though straightforward, is somewhat complicated to answer. If you read the law, the "letter" of the law says a CA does have a permissible purpose for pulling your credit report. But, the "spirit" of the law puts forth it should be a legitimate collection activity. Per Enigma's comment, this activity should produce some form of supporting documentation.

Bottom line; the wording in the law is murky, and at face value, it seems to allow any CA to pull any consumer's report at any time. Further, trying to bring action against, or perhaps dispute, an inquiry made by a CA is difficult to process.

So, I'm not sure if we've answered your question, or just raised more!

You can always send a PP inquiry letter.

    Thanks

Thanks for your help!! I just had Aarow pull a hard copy report and wasn't sure if that was aloud by law. I did have a collection with them some years back. Thanks again I will just except it as legal..
(you guys really know your stuff) Glad I found this forum :)

Although your wording, "I did have a collection with them some years back" leaves me to wonder. Was this paid, or is it still open? Would they have any reason to want to review your credit report?
