Hello, My name is Kelly.I am 25 years old and when I was 18 I started getting credit cards and decided never to pay them. Some of them are 7 years old and as recent as 3 years.Well I have settled down into my life and become responsible. Now I need to fix my awful credit.I am slightly disorginized and I have a baby so i was thinking about asking the company here for help.I know that 500 bucks would be worth it.I was just wondering for people that have done this....How much did they actually fix it or am I better off to try on my own?I dont really get many collection calls but I get tons of letters.I have been reading for days now so I know better than to contact them or try to pay,but I have no clue where to get started.I have privacyassist from bank of america so I already have my credit reports and scores. My scores are 492 512 and 512. Nice to meet you all and looking forward to some great advice. Kelly Oh ps does anyone know the laws for Massachusetts?
How much debt are you talking about? What are the minimum payments on those cards? Instead of wasting your money on one of those debt elimination programs, which are more or less big time scams, try looking into filing bankruptcy. A Chapter 7 - if approved - will legally erase all your debts.
Honestly theres nothing you can pay someone to do that you can't do yourself for the price of postage. Have you gotton actual reports from each of the CRA's? Not just the one you can pull through a service but an actual hard copy that comes with a report number. You will need that number to do disputes with. When you have all 3 then dispute old names/addys on each CRA's report. Any incorrect names, addresses state not me & never lived there. For old correct names addys state no longer known by that name & no longer live at that address and fear it could create possible identity theft. Transunion & Equifax are pretty good about deletions but Experian is not. You may find some old tradelines will fall off with this step. Allow 30-45 days for a complete response from the CRA's and you should receive a updated copy of your reports. Then you can look at whats left and plan how you want to handle them. You will need to figure out which accounts are out of your state's Statute of limitations (period in which you can be sued over the debt) and which are in. The ones that are in SOL are the ones you will need to watch. I don't know how much is owed or how old the accounts are but consider all options before BK. If all the debts are old & charged off it may be better to try and get them deleted. Good luck! Tegleg
thanks for your replys.Okay so first I order a hard copy. Then I dispute ALL the old names and addresses?Or just the ones that are not real?Sorry if i sound stupid.I am just trying to get this right. Kelly
A chapter 7 huh?I dont have any clue what the payments are on any of the cards ect because they are all in collection.I was also wondering I have a few things showing up two or three times on the same report. That cant be good.Is there a sample dispute letter for that?
Are any of them still with the OC? The ones that are 7 years old, and nothing was paid on them in all this time, 1.Dispute as old and they will come off. 2.They are out of Mass. statute (6 years) so you have an affirmative defense if you are sued so not such a worry as long as you answer if it goes to court. 3.The ones that have been sold or transferred, when and to whom? What are the amounts? Are the JDB's doing tradelines? 4.DO NOT DO ONE OF THOSE DEBT CONSOLIDATING DEALS! Woofer
You should read through the "credit repair primer" in the "stickies" at the top of the page for this forum. It details all the basic steps to go through. If you have trouble finding/understanding, post your questions. Sorry, it's a lot of info to write out in one response.
