Just wanted to tell anyone considering purchasing one of these not to. I had a horrific wreck today which was caused by a wheel coming loose. Flipped the car and the top crumpled like a aluminum can. A few more inches to the drivers side seat and I wouldn't be typing this. I think God was twinkling an eye at me today which I very grateful for. I'm very lucky to be here. But, back to the point, stay away from these. They flip really easy and they will smash your head into your ass if it lands right.
Whew....I am glad to hear you are OK. You take care of yourself! As for LR's LR's are aluminum bodies save for that strip by the door which ALWAYS gets rusted out. I am a LR snob. Have two, and have had one since college days, decades ago Both are VINTAGE ; ) One's an 88 that I have a rag top on, and my favourite is my 109. If you are depending on a LR as your only vehicle DON'T GET ONE as British cars, well unless they are finely tuned constantly they just won't run I also would not ever get one of the new ones, or the RR. Woofer and the dogs love their Rover's!
Definitely glad to hear you're OK! What model was it?? As stated above It isn't a car you want without serious maintenance.. I never thought them to be unsafe but it is a relatively top heavy vehicle.. I miss my 90.. If they started making em again I'd have to find a way to get one... The only vehicle close to it's capability was my old '80 Cherokee Chief!
Those NEW LR's are way too top heavy IMO. Of course I would never get one of them as I like the big old heavy ones. I like my drop down window and yellow wheels : ) I love my vehicle. It's a classic just like me Woofer
Wow Apex, Glad you're OK, sounds terrible. If you're into safety now, look at a Mercedes. The reliability is terrible, but they are safe.
Range Rovers Glad to hear you are OK apex. I've had a Range Rover Sport for the last few years, and I love it. Drives like a tank, and it's the sexiest SUV on the road right now. Too bad it only gets 10 mpg in the city!
No to LR, regardless of BMW, Ford or Tata's involvement There is an independent Land Rover specialty garage on Florida Avenue in Tampa. In years past it didn't have a fence that screened the property from public view, and one day a few years back I was amazed to see four Discoveries lined up with extremely similar serious front end, windshield and roof damage. It looked as though they had all rolled over, and all in nearly the same fashion. The damage was more on one side or the other, and I can't for the life of me remember whether that damage was on the right or the left, but given the reflexive tendency to steer right in emergency situations and the fact that they were facing north and I was driving north, I would guess the bulk of the damage was on the left side (west in this case) of the vehicles because that is where it would have had to be to make the strongest impression on me (a view from the other side would have showed a broken windshield and some frontal damage, but nothing close to the full extent of the damage). I wouldn't have one. First it's british, second it's tippy, and third it won't fit in a lot of parking garages. Still, that three door concept they're showing IS tempting...
I'm a snob. I would not buy a new Rover, as I like OLD CLASSIC 109's and they are stable secure and heavy. As for MB's I have a 83 Diesel wagon that is still going strong with over 300K on it.The wagon just keeps on going almost like an old American car from the 60's. The 67' 109 well he is wicked tempermental and I never take him off island preferring him to stay in his habitat. ; ) Woofer
This isnt the first story i've heard of LR's holding up pretty well during accidents. I'd still rather my Jeep.
I'm actually looking at the LR3's again. In retrospect, it was a bad wreck and the car probably saved my life. Had I been in something else eh, I would have never lived to have been defamed all over the internet.
