The gas pumps are killing me. I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations on a good gas credit card. It can be station-specific or a general one. Thanks.
There's alot of reward cards out there.click on the task bar where it say's credit and it will take you to some cards
I'm sure other companies have this as well, but if you have a Shell MasterCard and use it to buy Shell gas, you get a 5% rebate.
has anyone here resorted to not driving their own cars because of the prices? I am seriously considering not going out of the house anymore
I have been using my old 3 speed English bike and have lost a few pounds doing so : ) I have two vehicles. One diesel that gets just about 10MPG and Diesel here is just shy of SIX BUCKS NOW : ( The other vehicle I get about 23. I figure not using the diesel for going into town, I save at least 12 bucks a day and using the bike well I feel exercised ; ) Woofer
I'm enjoying my Costco TrueEarnings Business Card because it gives me a 5% cash rebate for all gasoline purchases. Your rebate can be redeemed as cash or used to purchase merchandise at Costco. The consumer version of this card gives you a 3% rebate for gas purchases. If you are not a Costco member or a business owner, the Discover Open Road card gives you 5% cash back for gas purchases and all auto maintenance charges. These are two of our most popular gas credit cards and can be used at virtually all gas stations as long as they accept credit cards as payment.
This is a great suggestion Maybe I could get out my old bike out of the garage and start losing weight, and say f$ you gas companies

LIke this morning, I already went down to the bakery and brought back bagels, in my little front wicker basket, and the back also has a basket . I can't bring home loads of groceries but I can bring home quite a few things. I also have been taking alternating dogs for our rides in the morning and then for a swim and all seem to love that as well. The thing about the three speed is it is comfortable and I just peddle along nice and easy, as I would not want to go fast with one of my dogs and also I like to look at the scenery, stopping to check out an osprey or a rabbit or the four leaf clover. : ) I have on my desk a bunch of money , as I put in 10 bucks a day as to what I have saved at minimum by not taking one of the vehicles. Enjoy your bike rides! Woofer
I have a fear of bikes as I've had too many falls. I don't think I've ever learned it. So it's more of "enjoy walking" for me
Hi. Thank you for your suggestion. But I am looking for a more general card, because I often don't want to drive around looking for a particular station. The thing is, I've always been absent minded so there's a possibility that I'd run out of gas before I find a shell station somewhere
Hi Bustdebt: This is great information. I was looking for a general gas card for the same reason you said here, flexibility. Again, Discover Open Road...
Do we know what they pull and what do you need for scores if you are in the low 600's? Thanks Lisa Woofer
Discover pulls TransUnion in most states. Most Discover cards are for people with good credit, hence Discover's high cash rebate or long interest-free periods. If your credit score is in the low 600's, you may have a hard time being approved for a high cash rebate card. I'd recommend the Capital One No Hassle Cash Rewards Card for people with average credit who are interested in cash back. You'll still get cash back for all your purchases plus a 25% annual bonus on the cash you've earned in the past year.
HMMMMMM OK I will look into that, and about Discover, I have one ,but not the one with money back. Do you think it would be wise for me to ask for a transfer to the cashback card? The Discover card is an old tradeline and while I do not use it much I would hate the thought of them checking my credit and then closing my account. Woofer
Credit card companies don't usually convert credit cards. Most will require you to go through the normal application process to take advantage of current credit card offers. I'm not sure if your having a Discover card already will up your chances of being approved for another Discover card even with a credit score in the low 600's. I'd suggest giving Discover a call as a cardholder and asking. Please let us know what you find out.
Thanks Hedwig. And did they do it w/out checking your credit? A lot of Citi and Cap One cards have tiered rates depending on your credit (good credit = lower interest rate), so it makes sense that they would check your credit with each new card. But it seems they may have changed their policy now, all the better for the consumer!
