I am trying to clean up my credit report and have some questions I know you guys will be able to help me with:

    1) I paid a medical collection acct. last year and it is still on my credit report. Is there any way to have it removed sooner than the 7 years?

    2) I received a credit card (unsolicited) in the mail a couple of years ago. I never used it or activated it but it is on my credit report. The creditor's statement says "Account closed at credit grantor's request". On my experian report its listed under "Accounts in Good Standing" but I've heard it could be potentially negative to have an account listed on your credit report that was closed by a credit grantor. Is this true?

    3) I have a retail credit card that I was late on a couple of years back. I've been consistently on time ever since then. Is there a way to work with them to reverse those negatives on my report. Some of my friends said they've worked with their creditors but I'm not sure where to start.

    Thanks in advance!!!!

    #1. No
#2. No - "closed by credit grantor" is not necessarily a "hit" against your history. They closed it because you never used it.
    #3 No

re #3, I'd answer that a definite "maybe"

You could dispute the late with the CRA to see if the creditor confirms it. I've had mixed results with that approach.

You could call them up and tell them how you'd like to spend more money at their store, blah, blah, blah, if it weren't for that darn late payment...

You could tell them you moved or had some other life-altering experience and missed one payment due to extenuating circumstances. Sometimes they'll clear that in those cases.

Which one will work for you? Can't say. You just have to try and see what happens.

As far as #1 goes, dispute it with the CRA. Perhaps since it's paid it won't be verified, and they'll have to delete it.

    I wouldn't worry about #2.

And follow ccbob's advice on #3.

most of you all have already answered the questions. i would like to give my opinion tooo...

    1. yes talk to the CRA, and discuss it with them you might get lucky as you have paid it.
    2. you have never used the card so they have closed it. and it shouldnt affect your CR
    3. my answer would be 'NO'

No don't do that. The Credit Reporting Agency will not help you, and they are not your friend.

I don't know how many times we have to tell people the cra's are not our friends.A good friend listens, try's to help, give's you the benefit of doubt. And is loyal to death.I may be wrong but they don't fit that outline.
