My sister used to live in the US and has some credit card debt here. She moved to AU a few months ago,it is unlikely that she will be coming back any time soon as she got married. So what are the options? Can the credit card companies sue her and garnish her wages in Australia? Is the US judgment even effective in AU? Is it even possible to sue someone who is not in the country? What is the worst that can happen? thanks
when you leave the country you still have the debt.I maybe mistaken but i believe the time for sol stops in till you return.there not going to return you for non payment. Now what the law is in au i don't know.
Unfortunately Australia and the United States are real close allies militarily and economically. Any American creditor/collection agency could submit any default judgments paperwork to the Australian embassy and request that the judgment be performed there. Will this happen - I doubt it, but it could.
