Hi all, Brand new user, hoping for a bit of help. I've done the stickies and read lots of postings; this community seems like a great place. Roughly 2 years ago, my score was in the high 600s and i had no problem getting a loan. Ignorance was bliss; however, i just checked my score and I'm mid-500s. I've decided to make fixing my credit a priority, and I'm committed to doing so! I apologize in advance if my questions are ignorant. I'm certain a fair amount of my poor credit is attributable to high balances on credit cards (I'm near 65% of my limits, in aggregate). Paying these down is job 1 for me, and I've already started. Beyond that, however, my report shows 8 "potentially negative" items. To wit, these are 8 closed accounts. All have been closed for several years, but include notations (e.g. - account was past due $x for y days, etc.), which I presume to be the basis for their being considered "potentially negative". I'm about to attempt to dispute these items in having them removed. My understanding is that if the reporters do not reply, the items will be taken off. To that end, I have this question. Any help is greatly appreciated: - My first step is submitting online disputes. This process requires that I select the reason for the dispute. "Account Paid in Full" is the only option that applies. Basically, my intention is to simply initiate a dispute in hopes that the reporter will not respond and the item will be taken off. If I choose "Account Paid in Full", can the reporter not simply concede that point - rendering my dispute pointless? I suppose the "real" question is this: If i simply wish to try to have these items removed because they are negative and hope the reporters will not respond, what is the best way? Should i instead mail my inquiries and not list a specific reason? I don't deny the accounts were late at points in the past; I just don't want 5-year old late accounts which have since been paid in full and closed to continue to haunt me. Any advice is appreciated. Also, can I expect any increase in my score for having these items removed? Thank you in advance.
First you should just try a little goodwill letter to each late reporting to try to have them removed.Try a sob story if you get a no then dispute.Get those high balances down to under 20%.Lates are neg.but can be worked around, since you have quite a few it's looked as poor managing of your credit.Unless you had a life event to help wxplain it.
