    Hello all,

I'm new to the site but excited to learn. I read over PsychDoc's Credit Repair Primer sticky so I hope to now violate any board rules.

Well in a nut shell, my credit stinks and for the longest I have avoided it like the plague. The past five years have been exceptionally challenging with a horrible divorce, no child support payments, and hurricane Katrina. I was laid off as a result of Katrina and relocated to Kansas City, MO.

I just recently remarried in November and feel horrible about the burden my credit is likely to cause. I do not want to infect my DH with my credit so we are unable to use me on anything. Which is very difficult.

The time has come for me to face my fears and try to fix this mess. I have a copy of my credit report but have not written any letters yet. Not really sure where or how to start.

So that's me in a nutshell. As I said, I'm happy to be here and look forward to learning from all the pros!

Start by getting the credit reports directly from each of the three bureaus.

Then go through and look for information that is incorrect--dates, balances, etc. Mark it up, and then go through one account at a time and figure out what to do. You may want to dispute several at the same time, but see what's wrong first.

Post before you write any letters. We need to know if it's in SOL or not, as that will help determine how to proceed.

Thank you! I plan to go over it tonight but so far I only have the one from Experian. Should I wait until I have all three?

Also, some neg items say for example: "scheduled to continue on record until Jul 2009" should I leave those alone?

It's fine to work on one at a time. In fact, some people would rather do that.

If it's scheduled to fall off in July and you're not in a major hurry for a big purchase, I think I'd leave it alone for a month or two, then dispute as "obsolete" and see if it comes off a little early.

I would wait on those because they will come off if they don't then you can dispute them.Start with old address's names and such. But like hedwig says check back with us and we can guide you through.Anyway welome to the forum

Are you saying there is a way to have all your previous addresses and past names used removed? I seriously have five pages of past addresses! My mother passed away when I was a teenager so I've been on my own since I was 16 so there have been a lot of ups and downs...well hell downs! :)
