Last Saturday one of my neighbors notified me that they and several of my other neighbors had been contacted by people with Indian accents who were looking for me. My neighbor gave me a note with a phone number, extension, reference number so I could contact these folks if I wanted to. I was alarmed and embarrassed that several of my immediate neighbors had been contacted by this group so I called the number immediately. The number was of course for a collection agency: Aegis Receivables Management Inc. (formerly known as Global Vantedge Inc.). They did everything they could to get me to give them my bank account info or credit card information to pay around $480 on an HSBC card of mine that has been charged-off since late 2006. I refused and insisted they would have to send me something in the mail--I wasn't just going to give them money. I was transferred several times, and offered a settlement amound of $335. After some 40 minutes on the phone, I finally agreed to pay the $335 using some kind of Walmart debit card that I could purchase after they sent me an email regarding the settlement offer. I received that email Monday morning. I have not paid them anything yet and they are calling my cell every day, many times. I have not talked to them again. I have a California mailing address for them. Should I send a certified letter requesting verification? Am I obligated to pay them since I verbally agreed to do so via telephone? Any advice on how to proceed would be welcome. Thank you.
Forget about dealing with them. They are outsources and many go the way side. I once had one calling me EVERY DAY morning and night, I now cannot remember the name, perhaps ASTA or ASTRO??? but they worked for a JDB of bad form. Anyway I picked up the phone one day SCREAMING that if they called me one more time that a curse would be put on them and their family... Guess what? I NEVER got a call from them again! WOofer
I agree with woofer!I wouldn't even talk to them. And if their from india threaten to kill a cow!If you want to pay contact the oc and have them pull it back from the collector.if they sold it then forget about it.
That really does work. Hubby threatened one that he was going to eat the sacred cow...they never called back. True story.
Yeah i picked up that from my dh.Once he got an obscene phone call and he went crazy and the person that made the call complain to the phone company.I have to admit that he went to far.
