Ok I Owe $31.10 To Alpat Collection Agency. I Sent Them One Of The Sample Deletion Letters I Got On Here. In The Letter I Told Them I Would Pay In Full The Balance If They Deleted It Off My Credit Reports. I Asked Them If They Agreed To Do It They Would Need To Sign And Return The Paper Saying They Would Delete It..well They Didnt Return The Letter To Me Instead They Sent Me A Letter Saying ...." Agree To Remove The Account Listed On This Notice From All Credit Reporting Agencies Once Payment Is Received". Ok So Is This True? Or Should They Have Signed And Returned The Letter I Sent Them? Im Trying To Repair My Credit And Im Kinda New To All This So I Need Ya'll Help...thanks!!!
I would be careful is the letter signed so they can't say well nobody signed it.You can try a check with the wording that when cashed the account will be deleted,or a money order.
nope its not signed..thats why i was wondering if i should believe them or not. all it has at the bottem is.. send payments to: alpat company inc. p.o. box 1689 slidell, la 70459 thats it nobody signed it.
I wouldn't believe them for a variety of reasons; the biggest of which is the agreements they have with the CRAs which say they aren't supposed to delete an account once it's been posted and then paid. They have to simply mark it as paid. Once it's posted and paid, it's VERY difficult to remove until the 7-yr reporting period elapses. You really need to remove it, first, and then pay it (if you want to).
Thats outside the big easy so i would be careful with them. You can try to contact and just have them sign the letter.or better yet get a fax from them.
ok...thanks so much for ya'll help! i have one more question..i just read for LA the SOL for open ended accounts is 3 years..is that true? bc most of my debt is 5-6 years old but i thought i couldnt do anything about it bc it had to be removed after the 7 years. and if it is true do i write the credit bureaus and tell them that those old accounts should be removed?
What you have on sol is they can't collect after the sol even though they try.On your credit report it will stay on from the date of last payment. So if you last paid in jan. of 2003 it should come off in jan 2010.So unless your trying to buy a house or other large payment i would wait them out.
