    Hello,

I am seeking advice on how to best dispute a collection letter which I recently received.

A college I attended billed me through an email account which they set up and I didn't even know existed until several late fees were applied.

They have refused to remove the late fees, claiming they sent me a letter informing me that primary communications and billing are handled through email.

I have refused to pay since, well, they hadn't sent me a bill until hundreds in late fees were added to the account and it was on its way to a collection agency.

    How should I handle this?

Do you think I will have any luck disputing the debt as invalid based on how I was being billed?

I've seen a few other people roll over and pay the late fees but the principal is what bothers me more than anything here.

Ask for verification of the debt, an accounting, and wherein the Agreement is states you'll be billed through email.

Thanks Apexcrsrv. Are there letters similar to the validation letters on this site which are used for verifications?

What is the college billing you for? Is it tuition?

    Tuition, yes.

I am willing to pay the tuition just not the late fees.
