I am making payments but barely to 2 different credit card companies. Is it best if I call them myself to explain why I am having problems and ask for a lower interest rate? Or should I go with a debt setlement service? It is soon going to be that I can't make the payments at all if I can't get a lower payment. I have to much debt to qualify for a loan of any kind. I also applied for a modified mortgage through Obama's "Make Home Affordable" program. Husband isn't working right now. Any advice is appreciated! Susie53
I would call your cc's company right away and try to work something out with them! Now your main concern is your home and family.A debt settlement will still leave you in debt because they charge you a fee and you'll still have a neg on your reports. My advise try to save your house before anything. Can your husband find a temp job like delivering pizza's at night while he looks for a job during the day.Now is the time to attack this problem. If you have to default on the cards well you have to default, but as a last resort.
susie53 Thank you, my first instinct was to call them but I wasn't sure. I tried asking via email from their website, however that is just replied to with "no lower rate is available at this time". very frustrating but I guess I will bite the bullet and make the calls tonight. I agree my husband needs to do something, he is trying but is limited by a bad heart. I will let you know what happens. Thanks! susie53
Can he apply for disability or ssi he can check into it.I did everything over the phone or online for my husband, went to the doctor and he agreed that my husband couldn't work and in 6 months he got his ssd check.
susie53 He is checking into SSI right now. He would rather work but is limited physically so I am not sure where that will go. I will let you know what the cc companies say. My elderly mother lives with us and has been hospitalized 4 times in the last 6 weeks, most recently going in on Friday so I am just going to call them today. Thanks for the advice.
You keep working on this can you get paid as a caregiver in your state for your mom?Maybe your husband could?
susie53 Never thought about getting paid as a caregiver for my Mom. I live in PA, not sure where to start researching this? The state's website maybe?
Maybe your health and welfare dept.In California you just have to take a 4 hr course and learn CPR.So its pretty simple some states don't have it,Don't know why they wouldn't let someone familiar take care of their loved you.By having her live with you is one of the hardest job you can have been there done that.
This is my current situation right now. 2 Credit Cards were written off and that interest rates went up before it was stopped. Now, I was thinking of settlement as I could not proceed when applying for a loan or any kinds of loan. Thanks for the advice as I am trying things on how I can manage my earnings from work to close this out.
You may find a tough time getting a loan from financial institutions with poor credit. Either downscale your plans and amount or wait until the absolute specialists help you out...
