I had a call on my voice mail today from a place called "Abram, Edwards & York", which left me a phone number to call and a case number to refer to. Definitely sounded like a collection agency. I've never heard of this place, though, and have never received any kind of mail from anyone by this name. I do have a few collection accounts out there, but they're all pretty old and I know the names of the collection agencies handling them. This is making me really curious as to what it's about, but I don't want to call. Has anyone heard of this collection agency and maybe knows what kinds of accounts they usually handle? Any ideas as to sneaky tactics I could use to find out what this is about without calling and straight-out asking them?

Hmmm...okay, so that tells me they're in Tucson, but not much else. Thanks, by the way; I didn't know you could get that kind of info online from the BBB. Anyway, does anyone have any underhanded ways of finding out what this might be about, other than calling and talking to them?

Well then, now I know for sure they are a CA. I figured that, though. I am amazed at how the folks here know how to dig stuff up. I am glad I didn't call, but I am dying to know what it could be about. Wish I could find that out. Sigh.
ed mandell these guys have gone to the extent of calling my nieghbors to give me a note to call them i told them i was filing for bankruptcy and to lay off they still dont get it. very aggressive and rude verbally atrussive and nasty.I filed a bbb complaint with the tucson az branch.
Apparently they are desperate enough to violate various federal laws to get at you right now. Are there lots of other alleged debts? You might discuss with a consumer rights lawyer your options in dealing with the ones that aren't following the law.
For any of that have received communication from them, I encourage you to contact an attorney to review the correspondence. They are sending illegal collection letters and using deceptive tactics. One of their tactics is the phone call from the "Private Investigator " that is suggesting your assets are in jeopardy. This " PI " is actually an Abrams collection agent. This is illegal. There collection letters don't identify them as a collection agency. The use a Letter head and name style to mimic that of a Law Firm. Their letters don't contain the notices to debtor required by the Fair Credit Reporting Act and demand payment within 5 days also illegal.
