Is it illegal for bill collectors go come to your home. I live in Texas and I currently am out of work due to medical issues. I have told these people I can not pay them at this time due to these other issues. I am thinking of filing bankruptcy, but not sure. I have not open the door but I told a policeman that I was being harassed he said not really since they are trying to collect their money. I sent them a cease letter in the past but that has not worked. They never sent this to collection it is the original creditor that is coming to my door. I think I owe less than 500 dollars. It is small signature loan company. I am not sure what to do. Please advise.

You always have your basic right to privacy, but I don't think there is anything that prohibits an original creditor from coming to your home.

Try writing them another letter demanding that all further communication be in writing. If they come to your house again, I would actually answer the door and politely ask them to leave. If they refuse to leave, threaten you in any way, or continue to harass you, then the police might be more willing to listen.

Put up some no trespassing signs and then let them come to the door. If they do then ask them whether they can read or not. If they can't let them spend a little time in the bucket and they will learn how to read real quick.
