I sent a letter to the CA demanding they remove the items that I had been disputing from my report as they were not mine, an I had no intention of paying them an had been disputing them from the get -go. I checked this morning and they are gone! The best part is that my experian score jumped from 584 to 641- now I am waiting for my student loan to show as being paid off! I am so excited! Thanks for all the great tips and help everyone has here!
Congrats!!! I am glad to hear that it worked for you. I have a paid collection account that I am trying to get rid of, any advice?
Excellent. It's always nice to hear a success story. Please come back often and share the tips you've learned with others as well.
Congrats Can you please paste a copy of your letter(s). I am in a similar situation and new to this process. Thanks a lot.
Here is my letter... Dear RJM Aquisitions, Thank you for responding to this dispute verification from experian so quickly. The debts listed above that you purchased are not my debts. I have disputed both of these debts repeatedly with the original creditor in 2003- I did not join their book clubs. These debts are now also several months past the statute of limitations for Oregon. I have contacted my State Attorney Generals Office to verify this. I urge you to consider these accounts closed and non-collectable. I insist that you remove all negative remarks in reference to both of these acounts from my credit report, and all 3 of the major credit bureaus. If I do not see them removed from my credit report immediately I will be forced to pursue legal action against you for violating my rights with both the FCRA and the FDCPA . Sincerely,
jll- Thanks for sharing your success story with so many of us who are on a similar path. One question, how long did it take from the time you sent the letter until the item was deleted? I have sent several letters and am in the waiting process now.
An important point to remember is that the poster was able to claim that the debts belonged to someone else. If you cannot honestly make that claim and back it up then using the letter posted here may not work. In order to back up such a claim you might very well have to prove it in court. Maybe they have a totally wrong social, totally wrong old addresses or whatever but there needs to be one or more substantial errors on their part in order to use such a letter successfully.
It took only a week or two to get them eleted after I sent the letter. These were also older acounts though, and were for small amounts of money- each one under $100. i odn't know how successful it would be for newer accounts of a higher $ amount...
