Would it hurt to include a copy of the letter I received from the collector with my validation letter? Thanks.
I don't think it would hurt you, but it's not necessary either. I would just keep it simple and send only the DV letter CMRRR.
That depends on the DV letter one sends. I teach that a copy of their demand letter always goes stapled to the demand letter. I also teach that it should be an exact copy front and back if indeed anything is printed on the back of the original. You just advised that you would just keep it simple which is a concept that I agree with wholeheartedly. In fact, I teach that a DV letter should be kept so simple that it is only 3 sentences long, and contains no reference whatever to the alleged debt. That is, no account numbers, no reference to the original creditor or the debt collector, nothing like that at all and certainly no questions asked. If it is kept so simple as that and a copy of the original demand letter is not included the debt collector would have no idea what debt the sender was talking about. If the two somehow become separated the debt collector would be absolutely unable to validate the debt. If that happens, that's their problem, not mine. Best they don't attempt to collect the debt until they have validated the debt as the law demands they do.
