Hi all, this will be a tough first post and I don't even know if I'm in the right place for what I need to achieve, I apologize if I offend anyone with my situation or lack of morals. in AA they tell everyone to stand up and admit they are an alcoholic ! Well hello I know this isn't AA but, my name is Craig and I'm a dirtbag with no current job horrible credit cause I completely stopped paying my bills several years ago...on my own I made the decision one day to say hell with them I'm not sending you another dime. long story short, I had lost my job ( 1997 ), lived in my home with several roommates, wanted to go Bankruptcy ( circa 1999 ) back just before they were gonna change the laws, but moved out, lived with my girlfriend at the time and my home was rented for the exact mortgage amt monthly....the Atty I spoke with said my home ( not my current homestead ) was an investment and they would never discharge, fast fwd about 6 months , turned in my leased vehicle, and completely stopped paying on every credit card I had. p.s. I also forgot to file my taxes for about 2 years straight ...dooh... got married in 2001, sold my home later that year, had to pay 2 judgments and all back taxes from the proceeds, the only 2 that filed I guess and tax liens were satisfied..... took the rest of the proceeds and paid off my wife's bad debts so we could in a year purchase a home again I did a program called ICR credit repair, it actually worked and removed several ( about 1/3 ) of the bad debts from my credit report fast fwd another few more years so up till now, I have been in hiding, spoken to no creditor ever since the beginning, moved so many times the letters from the creditors stopped coming, no phone in my name and never had contact with any creditor any phone number, they stopped calling ( leaving messages ) about 4 years ago..... I haven't seen my credit report in 10 years before you guys say thats the first thing you need to look at, I feel in my heart that as soon as I provide the additional info that the bureaus are gonna require the phone gonna start ringing and the letters are gonna start again ?? what is this about the 7 year it drops off thing, is this real or complete B.S....I haven't had contact with any creditor in almost 10 years ?? shouldn't my tax liens fall off too..... last time I checked I didn't have any judgments or anything filed in the county where I live currently, what about the county where I used to live I'm in Florida BTW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> what do I do next, my current situation : I am unemployed, home, cars, utilities everything is in my wife's name I'd like to get a look at my credit report and I guess try and repair it any suggestions, I can answer more specific info, just don't know what else you might need thanks Craig
Well, you have to pull your head out of the sand sometime. Living in Florida which has a 5 year SOL on most debts it seems you have little or nothing to worry about there. It also sounds like you are well outside of SOL on credit report stuff so I don't see you have much to worry about any more. I'd say the water looks fine but you will have to jump in to find out. Might be a shark or two in there but you won't find out until you have made the dive. I'd say go for it.
Tax liens--are they paid? If not, they'll never go away. But most of the negatives should be gone. I agree with Bill. You need to pull your reports and see what's going on.
yes tax liens were paid about 5 months after they were filed, I begged for the IRS not to file as my home was on the market and the equity was to go toward the liens, but they did anyways I'm worried that if there is something still pending, after I pull my report, and the bureaus will ask for updated info since I have moved twice in those 10 years, the phone calls might start as some of the bad accounts were sold to other collections agencies ?? not sure how that works but I did have negative reportings from companies that were not the original creditor ???
Those who are not creditors all need to learn how to deal with debt collectors in a positive manner. It matters not that we might be multi-millionaires because there is no such thing as a human being residing in these United States and quite possibly the entire world who does not owe money. Stop and think about that before you tell someone that you are out of debt and don't owe anybody because if you say that you are fibbing. If you owe nobody and own your home free and clear you still owe money for taxes and utilities. Pay your water bill today and you still owe money to the city because your water meter doesn't read in real time. Neither do your gas or electric meters although some large users have meters that can be read in real time. The electric utilities are working on a system of meters that can be read remotely and placed on every home in order to eliminate the need for human meter readers which is a huge expense for them. The gas meter at our local Denny's restaurant has an antenna mounted on it with no coax cable going anywhere so it must be reading the gas meter in real time. So no matter how we look at it we are all debtors all the time. We cannot realistically say that we don't owe nobody. (LOL) So we all need to learn how to deal with debt collectors in a positive manner and my 18 questions to ask debt collectors every time they call does just that. Click on my google link below and you will find the list of 18 questions to ask debt collectors every time they call. Even though you think you owe nobody some debt collector might get the idea that you do and come after you. They might even put false information on your credit reports and if they do that then they are liable to you for whatever damage they have done to your credit ratings. Stop and think about that for a moment. Let's say that a debt collector puts an adverse listing on your credit report alleging that you owe Dewey Cheatum & Howe a bunch of money. Isn't that listing an allegation rather than a proven fact? Do debt collectors have permissible purpose to pull your credit reports based on allegations which may or may not be true? Do they have permissible purpose to report an allegation of debt? I have two students who have each won multiple federal cases against debt collectors and the credit bureaus for pulling their credit reports and/or putting adverse listings on their credit reports for debts they didn't even owe in the first place. In one case a debt collector reported that Mike had been placed in foreclosure and a judgment entered against him. Problem was that the foreclosure was against an apartment complex where Mike had once lived as a renter but of course never owned any part of the complex. So is it allowable for a debt collector to even pull your credit reports if they have no proof that you owe a debt? I'll leave the answer to others since I don't get into credit repair.
