Debt settlement company paying me

I am currently enrolled in this debt settlement program which is all online. It is costing me 15% of my total debt, which I do not want to reveal what that is. However, the program guarantees me to settle my debts for 55 cents on the dollar in 24 months, which includes the 15% . The company who signed me up to the program is sending me a check for a $100.00 every month for the first 8 months of the program. A third of the program, they are mailing me checks. They call it their Grocery Assistance Program. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is thinking about doing debt settlement. I only have been in the program for 2 months, but I have made 2 payments and received $200 from the company for Groceries. I was asked by the company to write a testimonial in this forum and I told them I would be happy to do it. If anyone wants the name of the company just send me a message.

Don't be silly! Do you really imagine they are paying you anything? Fat chance. All they are doing is returning $100 a month that they are overcharging you in the first place. We aren't stupid around here and we know a car rebate program when we see one.

All that happens in a car rebate program is you buy a car that should have sold for $20K but agree to pay $25K so you can get a whopping $5K of your own money back. People fall for that dumb stuff all the time. Problem with that is that you borrow the $25K at whatever rate of interest so you pay interest on the inflated balance as well. Nothing but a sucker trap and that is all this deal you are touting so highly is. Nothing but a sucker trap and you fell for it. I sure hope nobody from around here falls for it. If they do they need to volunteer to be the donkey at a kids "pin the tail on the donkey" game.

Debt reduction programs, debt resolution programs and all the rest of their ilk are nothing but con games. Outright scams visited on the gullible and they normally use high priced TV ads to tout their silly games. They got to be making lots of money in order to afford those fancy TV commercials, radio ads, newspaper ads and all the rest. Who pays for that with money they could have used to pay creditors if they were truly trying to help anybody.

    I'm quoting this for emphasis.

I know that I am being charged for the service. The cost is 15% of my debt. Other companies wanted to charge me between 15% and 25%, but no other company at least offered to provide assistance with grocery money. The way I see it, if I am going to be charged for a service that I need, I might as well get a little back. If someone signs up for a debt settlement program, I understand how you feel about them, but if someone is going to sign up would you agree that this is who they should choose?

I'm not about to agree to any such thing. I highly recommend that before signing up with any company people should do a BBB check and check with their local chamber of commerce for their recommendation. They may or may not be listed with either. That's not the important part. What is important is whether or not they have any adverse listings with those people that have not been satisfactorily resolved.

I did research them and found no complaints and I did not sign up with them at first. I talked to other companies and this was definitely the best.

Your line of thinking says no one should go to a car mechanic to get their car fixed because the mechanic is going to charge outrageous prices for the labor. Even though a person cant do it themselves. Do not be silly, the company is performing a service which according to you should be free. This is a ridiculous thought process and anyone who needs a service that they can not do should not find someone to do it for them. There are people out there just like myself who need debt settlement. If no one needed it, the people making those commercials would be out of business. Yes, I do agree that there are many scams out there and you need to research your options. All I am saying is if you are going to do a debt settlement program, the one I am in is the best around.

No one should buy a FORD because everyone knows they are pieces of ****. But yet people still buy them and some work great and others terrible. Please do not tell people who are looking for help not to find it because of what YOU think about it. Why dont you ask people that have finished debt settlement programs what they think? I know you and everybody else who reads these posts would be astonished of the answers. I am living proof that debt settlement is good if you go with a good company.

Does anyone else agree with me?

No, not free. Definitely not. I'd say that such a valuable service should charge at least double what you owe your creditors payable up front. No extension of time allowed. After all, you failed to pay your creditors so why should they extend you credit for such a valuable service?
They shouldn't? I may be wrong there but that seems to be a double negative which ends up making no sense. On the other hand, if they can't do it themselves then how else would they get it done if they didn't find someone who can do it for them?
There are zero people out there who need that kind of so called service. The desire for such service was and is created by advertising. Created out of thin air and if anything is certain it is the fact that the more patently silly the idea is the greater the number of people will fall for it.
That may be. Tell you what. Do us all a favor will you?
When you answer the knock on your front door one fine day in the probably not too distant future and see a person with a bunch of papers telling you that you now have an invitation to the next session of civil court come back and tell us how much good this wonderful debt settlement company did you.

Of course we already know the answer. They will drop you like a hot potato. Ask them about that and they will most likely tell you not to worry. That's what they are there for. To see to it that those things never happen and you will believe them and go away happy and comfortable knowing that they got your back. Truth is you would be about as well off and maybe better off if you had Minnie Mouse guarding your back.

What those debt settlement companies really do is cause you to lose most if not all your benefits under the consumer protection laws and make it nearly impossible for you to exercise them. Then when you get sued they will dump you and finally tell you the truth which is they really can't help you do anything other than to dig your hole a bunch deeper. They will tell you to go get a lawyer which you will probably do and then come back here telling us about this great lawyer that also helped you by relieving you of even more of your hard earned cash with even less actual beneficial results.

Let me give you an example. One of my students here in Oklahoma is getting foreclosed on. We just barely got their lawyers on the ropes ready to deliver the knock out punch in court. Then they come back with the answer that they didn't comply with a court order because they were negotiating with a lawyer who is also a judge for the homeowner's benefit.

Well now, how did that happen? Brian's dad is a rich oilman. Brian's uncle is a wealthy lawyer and his cousin is a judge. Brian's dad called up his brother who called up his son and said that Brian needed their help to negotiate a settlement and if they didn't step in and help Brian out Brian would lose his home. So Brian's cousin called up the lawyer and tried to make a deal for Brian who didn't learn about that until they got to court. Brian was really upset. First of all, in Oklahoma a judge cannot act in the capacity of a private attorney for anyone. At least not directly so as anybody would be able to prove it. You can hire a junior partner in the judge's law firm but the judge can't be involved in the case behind the scenes.

So Brian's cousin acted on his behalf as his attorney without Brian ever knowing a thing about it. He has nearly ruined Brian's case with his meddling but there is a hearing coming up about that in a few days and Brian will be back in the saddle again and in a much better position than he was before the lawyers started meddling in his case without his knowledge and permission.

Why is that possible? Because Brian and his wife are studying the law and are doing a great job of it. They started off demanding validation. That's something your great valuable service will or already has deprived you of. Or at least until you get sued and you find out the truth of what I am saying the hard way. Of course, luckily you will get a second chance to demand validation when they sue you because the lawyer is a 3rd party debt collector too. But will you know enough to demand validation or will you run for a lawyer who will also deprive you of that valuable right? Judging from what you are telling us now, I'd almost be willing to bet you will run out and find the nearest great lawyer who will also provide you with an equally valuable service.

After all, it is much easier to just keep on digging your hole deeper and deeper than it is to stop digging, say "Whoa" and start to turn the thing around instead. Problem is that sooner or later you will have to stop and face reality and that reality will slam home real hard when they even take away your shovels and leave you with no means of digging your holes any deeper.

Of course, when that happens you will predictably run for the un-protection of a bankruptcy court so you can just keep on digging your holes. Now then, that's what I think will happen but I also know that you will disagree with me.
