After 45 days I finally got word that the CRA has deleted one of my two disputed collection accounts. That's good news as the other one is due to fall off within 6 months or so. However, the email I got also requested that I send 1 A copy of my Driver's License 2 A copy of my SS card or W2 Form 3 A copy of a utility bill I do not have any other disputes ongoing and I downloaded a .pdf with the result's of the two disputes. I would like to know why the CRA needs this info now and is it to my benefit to send this info in? Is it possible they can revert the outcomes should I not send this info in? Thanks in advance for responding.
They want to verify you are who you say you are. Was this a written dispute or did you dispute online?
It was an online dispute. They already decided to delete one and verified the other so I'm not sure why they wanted the info after the fact. Thanks
I would just ignore the request for a bit and wait to see if they process the deletion without it. You must have provided your SSN and credit report number when you initiated your online dispute in the first place, so that should've been enough for them to verify your ID and investigate the dispute. That said, if they won't proceed with the deletion, you may have to comply and send in the additional info. I doubt it would change the result of your dispute though.
