Do you think that I, with 1 AU card (8 yrs 9 months, never late, BoA) have a chance at either USAA or NFCU unsecured cards?

PS: I just started reporting this AU and is the only thing on my report. I wont even have a FICO score for 6 months but I do have a 70k/yr job if that counts at all (think it should).

    Thanks.

I wish I could edit my post but I can't so ill have to make a new one.

I don't have an access number for NFCU nor does it find one for me, is there a way around this? I dont know anyone in the military.

    Thanks.

USAA asks for something similar, however I am not related in any way to the Military, so I guess I dont apply for either.

    Thanks

I you want to go the CU route, I would just go local. Open up a checking account with a local CU, and they'll probably be willing to offer you a credit card as well. They may also take your income into consideration more than a large national credit issuer would.

This is what I am leaning towards. I did get pre-selected online for a capital one, however I want to wait on that. I am applying for a CITI forward card before accepting the capital one if at all. CITI has requested a SSN authorization form to be mailed back so I did and ill check back in a week. If I get it i might just wait and get a CU CC as my second one and avoid the capital one card unless i need to as my second. Wish me luck.

Sounds like a good plan. Good luck, and please come back and let us know how it plays out for you.

Congratulations! Your application for the Citi Forward Card was approved with a credit limit of $6,500.

After providing verification documents after document I figured at least I hadn't been denied yet unlike the first time when I simply got denied for lack of credit. This time I got approved for way higher than I expected for my first card! So what should I do, try to get a second good quality CC or just try to grow with this one for now?

Congrats! Stick with this card for 3-6 months. Keep your CU ratio under 10% and continue to pay your monthly bills in full and on time. I would keep monitoring your FICO scores from time to time to see how they're doing too. After 3-6 months I would then apply for an even better rewards credit card offering a great sign up bonus or something. Keep us updated on how your scores improve and I'd be happy to make future recommendations for credit cards. I keep pretty close tabs on all the latest offers and promos.

Thanks i really appreciate it. You are right, I will probably wait 6 months until i get an actual FICO score (1 month ago i didn't even have a credit file!). I am interested on what Ill be looking at then and what my score could potentially be. How does CITI rank in the cc market, and how often or how do they award CLI's?

Adding an authorized user account to your credit will instantly generate a credit score for you. If you can't find a family member or friend to help you out with a authorized user account and can look online for companies that sell authorized user accounts. Just make sure you do your research about the company before purchasing. Thanks! Heather with BoostMyScore.NET
