Cellular companies updating account activity

I know this has been covered, but I've spent the last hour searching and only found a couple of near-misses on the subject. So in advance, I am sorry...

I am trying to help my father clear up his credit report, and there are two different cellular service companies that are updating his account information to show activity. If memory serves me correctly, this is illegal, but I am unsure of how to get it stopped.

One of the accounts was closed in 1999, but the credit report shows account activity as of April, 2011. (There has been zero contact between my father and the company since the account was closed in 1999.)

The second cell phone account was terminated in 2004, but they show account activity as of January, 2011 on the credit report. Again, there has been absolutely no contact between my father and the cellular company.

I looked at the dispute form for Trans Union, but there is no box for comments, and the closest thing to the issue is a box marked "Debt too old, request deletion". I am worried that they will only look at the account activity section, which has been illegally updated, and simply dismiss the claim.

How do I go about having this removed?

Mobile phone companies usually never report any activity until an account has been closed due to nonpayment and charged off. Is that the case here? Or were these accounts closed in good standing? Also, what activity is being shown on his credit reports?

Contract was closed, but they double billed him on the last payment and he wasn't willing to pay twice so they are trying to collect on it.

The "Newest" one is showing that the account was opened in 2010 with the most recent activity in April 2011... but the account was terminated in 1999.

I would dispute the validity of the whole debt with the CA given that he was double billed him in the first place. It's a shame it wasn't handled while the debt was still with the OC, but there's nothing that can be done about that now. Plus, this shouldn't even be showing up on his credit reports since it's so old. What date is shown as the date of first delinquency. That's the date that matters. I would dispute through the CRAs and see what happens.

He disputed the report on the grounds that the accounts were too old to be reported. It took 10 days for the 3 reporting agencies to complete their investigation, and the accounts have been cleared from his report.
