I have a CO with HSBC that I paid in full with a CA, about 2 years ago. Recently I decided to really deal with my credit. Not advertising and hope I don't get into trouble for saying, before I realized I can & should do this myself I used a repair agency for 2 months. The paid CA dropped off :smileyhappy:, but I am sure what they did was shady to get me to pay (didn't know any better at the time, just wanted them off my back) and when DV'd just tucked their tail and deleted. So here's the problem, looking at my daily report for USAA: HSBC listed in Neg accts, EX shows no balance (just blank), but a high balance $1505 (this amt was paid to CA), acct trans to another lender or claim purchased TU: bal $1505, high bal $1505, CO as bad debt, purchased by another lender. On EQ, listed amongst accts that are either good standing, currently paying, paid is HSBC $0 bal, high bal $800, paid as agreed & acct transferred of sold. On my Myfico TU - HSBC bal $1505, largest bal $1505 CO as bad debt, closed 12/08 EQ (free report) High Credit $423, CL $800 (CL was actually $1000), last payment date is wrong (shows as 3 months after card opened, had this card for about 3yrs) date closed 7/2005, closed by consumer, trans/sold/paid. I do not have EX on hand. I am a confused as to why the discrepencies; no one is showing paid after CO (except EQ paid as agreed & trans sold how is it reporting both?), and TU is showing a balance. What should my course of action with HSBC should be, or do I deal with the CRA?
Thanks. I wasn't sure who to go after first. I was thinking CRA's but I noticed the discrepencies when I thought about a GW to HSBC since I paid in full, for a deletion or paid as agreed. Would that make a difference in my route, trying to get a GW?
You can always try a goodwill letter later on. Disputing the inaccuracies through the CRAs won't change that. If the disputes don't work, then I would take the goodwill angle and hopefully HSBC will be nice since the debt has already been paid in full.
Thanks again! Another ques or 2 - so how do I dispute it? Meaning do I spell out the inaccuracies or do I just keep it simple and state the TL is incorrect & let them figure it out? Not sure if it matters but I will be mailing letters to the CRA, should I CMRR?
People have differing opinions on this. I think you should state the specific inaccuracy and send your letter CMRRR.
I second Joshua, especially in light of Johnson v. MBNA; your best offense, is proving that your disputes were specific. It defends against the frivolous dispute allegation, as well as the data furnisher alleging that it can just do a cursory review of the data to satisfy the dispute.
Yes I did. Just saw the updated info last week. It's now reporting 0 balance on on 3. I actually disputed in late Feb and did not keep track of it. So it took about 45 days to update. What confused me is that I got a letter from HSBC today stating the account was sold to Arrow, not the CA that I paid, but could be under a different or they hired a 3rd party. Will start the GW process to try and remove.
