I just received a brand new letter from a CA on a four year old collection that I don't recognize other than its the old Utility from a former foreclosure occuring during a BK. I am thinking it might be a bill that should be for the new home owners and the billing never got changed over. Anyway what is the best way to handle this one? Is there an easy way to get the CA to return the collection to the OC to deal with them directly? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Kevin
Hi Kevin and welcome to the boards! I'd first check out these threads and see if they answer your question: http://consumers.creditnet.com/Discussions/credit-talk/t-old-utility-bill-collection-71228.html http://consumers.creditnet.com/Discussions/credit-talk/t-wham-old-utility-bill-gone-ca-56880.html Welcome aboard! I would suggest sending a dispute letter which says that you are disputing the alleged debt on the grounds that you surrendered the property in bankruptcy, any charges before the bankruptcy are discharged, and any charges after the bankruptcy belong to the new owners. Send a copy of the discharge order as well. Most likely, you will not hear back, and they will delete the tradeline from your credit reports (if it was reporting). And no, I would NOT pay a penny towards this.
