After being married, my husband purchased furniture at Art Van, and it was financed through Progressive financial services. It never showed on either of our credit reports. My question is this, can I request (via the bureaus) that it be reported on BOTH of our records, or can it just be reported on his, seeing he was the one that opened it, although we have a joint acct. and both paid monthly until completion. ???
You'll have to request through Progressive that they report the account. The credit bureaus only compile and report what is reported to them by data furnishers like Progressive financial. You should be aware that some companies will only report when something bad happens and you default...not sure about Progressive.
+1 Some lenders don't report at all ie: Bill Me Later/PayPal Credit. Don't know whether they report bad information though. The company I work for doesn't meet the minimum amount of accts to report for Transunion and Equifax. It is also cost prohibited for the number of loans we extend.
No problem, let us know what you find out! If this lender does a lot of financing for in-store purchases of furniture, my guess is that they do report information to the CRAs. Due to cost, they just might only report negative information though.
So I spoke with a rep on the phone, who was very helpful. They do NOT report positive info. to the bureaus. What they were able to do, however, is provide me with the entire payment history, as well as an official letter stating our acct. was paid on time every for every installment. They also are providing a letter stating it was paid off in full.
Thanks for the update. And I'm glad to hear they were at least willing to help out and provide some documentation for you of your positive payment history.
