Ok so I have had great progress with cleaning up my credit. I went from mid 500's to almost 750 in the course of 2 + years. I just had something show up ass an open collection on my TU report as of the 14th that states I owe almost $1000 from 2011. I am almost certain that it was from when I was in the process of separating from my ex and she continued to use my information for cable TV. I have not made any moves yet and was curious as to how I should approach this? Obviously I would need to have this validated, do I dispute the account with TU and send the letter to the CA or do I reach out to the OC and see if we can come to a resolve I.E pay for deletion after I get the validation? Not sure if that is even a possibility at this point due to the age of said acct? I have been patiently waiting for a judgement that has been paid off long ago to fall off of my report this Aug and then obtain a home loan and now this has reared it's head. So frustrated it's not funny!
Maybe I should reword my post? I have never received an actual letter from the CA about this account, it just appeared on my CR (Credit Karma) as of the 14th.......I tam thinking that I will just dispute it and go from there?
I would hit them with a validation, and follow it immediately up (as soon as you know that they received it) with the CRA disputes (1-2 punch).
Ok so this am I got a reply to my dispute and tu removed the collection from my report and put the 84 points back! Quick response time to say the least.
Most likely there was a recall on dispute provision in their contract, and they no longer have the account.
OK, so at the risk of sounding uneducated on this matter. Do I leave this as is and see how it all plays out from here or?
If it's off the credit report, it's a victory... The OC may send it to someone else, then you attack it again using the subsequent CA strategy.

Thank You Joshua H! I had also disputed the judgement that was due to come off in Aug and it was removed as well and been preapproved for a decent home loan with a fantastic APR. Things are looking up here due to all the knowledgeable people on here!
Wow- that's great news! Good luck closing on the home loan. Glad to hear you've set yourself up to lock in a great rate. Let us know how it goes!
