Not too shabby today: 1) Refund check of the escrow on the mortgage my boyfriend paid off (charged it to Citi AA!) It's several thousand, so it'll come in handy. 2) New ePlatinum credit card to replace the old Dell VISA which has been discontinued (issued by First USA). 3) AOL letter beggin me to come back. 4) Christmas catalogs from Spiegel, Eddie Bauer, Nordstrom, JCPenney, Saks... 5) Natural Gas bill (oh boy, here comes Winter!) 6) Fleet bt checks and offer of 3.9% (no fee) until April 2002 (Hmmmm, think I'll take them up on that one!) 7) Handwritten letter to bf from his ex-wife (nope, I'm not opening it just for you guys' guilty curiosity!)
I haven't got my mail yet, so in order to make me feel better, you are going to tell us what is in that letter, right?
Of course, this would be solely for the entertainment of credit net members and we would not encourage others to try this at home (LOL)
Okay- 1- Transunion report (FICO 665) 2- New Marshall Fields credit card 3- Providian bill Best regards, Mirage
Just leave the letter alone! It would be different if it was a bill or something but to open a PERSONAL LETTER to him might cause you some trouble! I personally would be HOT if my significant other did that to me. Personal mail is personal mail. If you are going to do that, you might as well read his diary! Besides, you can always read the letter AFTER he opens it! You know what they say.....if you go looking for dirt, you are going to find dirt! Besides, there can't be nothing too crazy in the letter for her to mail it knowing that there is a chance that you might read it. She does know about you, right? LOL...
Nah! I wouldn't do that. What I would (and did) do was calling my BF and tell him it was here. (I actually called to tell him about the mortgage check, but that came up too. He ASKED me to read it to him. The jist: She happened to notice while at the Lexus dealership that he had paid off most of the old debt he got stuck with in the decree (He totally paid off the mortgage of the house he was awarded, and some $30,000 in credit cards which had been either joint or in her name only) all within a year's time. That was due to his working diligently and my heavy-duty use of this forum for advice and resources. Just by incident, this helped her financial position too, of course, so she was indeed able to get another Lexus (would have been denied otherwise, 'cause her new cards are maxed and she pays only minimums, works sometimes, but usually not and has mortgaged the investment property to the hilt since the divorce. Mind you, the agreed decree left her virtually debt free, with an $825k house, free-and-clear, 2 new paid off cars, several investment properties (also mortgage-free bringing in $52,000 income per annum, even in a bad year. A paid up college fund for the 2 teens (sweet things, both!) In short, she got about 70% if everything and little debt. So what happened? Mismanagement. She simply failed to grasp the ramifications of no longer having a gravy train. But the letter is basically asking, "since you're doing sooooo well, this decree must be miscalculated, so I want you to pay off my new debts as well...after all, YOUR children could starve, if you don't." My thinking of course is that her lack of financial acumen does not automatically committ him to her money troubles forever. Now she's not a bad sort. I've met her and actually like her. She's simply one of the most self-centered people I've ever met. Completely engulfed in her own pleasures. Example: while he cut out nearly all fun and frivolity for a year to pay off debt and be clear of it, she went on trips to Vegas, Alaska, LA, Grand Cayman, Alcapulco -- bought another Lexus, bought each of the teens a new car, etc., etc., etc. She just doesn't get "it" and now she's panicking because she's getting dunning letters and phone calls and her once sterling credit is tanking big time. But I didn't have say a word. As we speak, he's drafting his, uhm, "response".
I got notification from Bloomingdale's about their upcoming sale. I get an extra 15% off of anything in the store if I use my card which will be deducted from my bill! My limit is only $400. It use to be $200 until I called a while back and squeezed $200 out of them. I tried to call again to get another increase but they weren't willing to do anything for me. I had a zero balance and I never utilized the last increase that they gave me. They want to see some usage and pay history before they'll increase again. I did go out and buy $50 worth of stuff so maybe that might help?? Oh well... I also got a check in the mail from my friend who I lent $60 to. Then I walk in the door and check my messages and there's a message from my friend saying, "Don't cash that check just yet...."! Why do I do this to myself??? :-\
Hope, all I can say, is good luck! My DH has an exwife & kids too. Scary situation especially for a gal without that kind of baggage herself!
Oh, BTW... I got that Cap1 Arbitration letter. Basically would mean I can't sue them, but they allow you to reject the new agreement for now. A catalog, and DH savings plan info
