    Third-party information

Get your file, directly, from Experian.

Wow1 I just read this. It is very SCARY! However, I don't think I have to worry about anyone wanting to use my report as their own! IF this is what she's up to. Can ANYONE pull ANYONE"S report???????? Don't you have to have some kind of authority to do that?

Since you said she works in a law office and was "dealing with a collection" it makes me suspicious. It sounds as if she is doing collections in law office and trolls the credit repair message boards to try and keep up to date on tactics people are using. She probably has a collection for someone with a similar name and pulled your report to get more information to see if it was you.

I have had several inquiries on my reports from collection agencies looking for someone else, and actually some accounts entered that were not mine. More reason the FCRA needs to be rewritten completely.

Hahaha!!! No more surfing the day away - I was working - had a brief lull and posted once, then I got busy again.

No good info at this point. Credit Aware, the monitoring service said they can't tell me any more than I got on this little notice they sent. The girl I spoke with said she had seen a notice floating around that Experian is auditing all their accounts, and it could be that, but I didn't have time to call Experian to check.

I did get the Credit Expert 800 number, they said to call the regular Experian number, but again, I couldn't get through and couldn't stay on the phone.

I am waiting for a friend who works in the "industry" to get back to me.

Waiting for a cop friend to call me back.

That's where it stands so far. Mystery of the week, huh?

Did you obtain your file directly from Experian?

    Re: Who is and why

Yes, Greg. These are not on it. I faxed Experian a copy of the report, and a letter asking for an explanation. Their response was to send me another copy of my credit report, and ignore my question completely.

Knock me over with a feather.

My friend, who could have told me who it is, has not responded, and other efforts to find out (confidential sources) have proved fruitless.

I called Intersections, the company who issued the report, and they said I had to contact Experian. The service rep there said she had "heard a rumor that someone saw a memo" that Experian was having their records audited. I can't imagine why they wouldn't tell me that, if that is what this is. What do you think? Should I send them a letter telling them to answer my question, or the next communication they get will be from my attorney? He will write a letter for free :)

A letter from an attorney works wonders with a CRA. My mom had six accounts straightened out recently with her attorney writing a very strongly worded letter.

See this exchange with Trans Union regarding the completeness of credit reports and their claim regarding the differences between their reports of files and the translation of their files by resellers: http://www.creditaccuracy.com/correspondence.htm#incomplete1

    Also:

No 3999888 exists. The seven-digit format is consistent with other Experian subscribers.

    Intersections: http://www.tuc.com/Personal/IdentityGuard.asp

    (B) An identification of a person under subparagraph (A) shall include

    (i) the name of the person or, if applicable, the trade name (written in full) under which such person conducts business; and

(ii) upon request of the consumer, the address and telephone number of the person.

I recommend no phone calls, and mailed letters to named individuals. To start, demand an answer. If you get none, a refund.
