    Hi people,
I just found this site today. I've been looking through a lot of the threads and am quite excited about all that I've seen so far. Where is a good place for me to start fixing my credit? Also, how do I find out my score?

    Thanks!

I would start by getting copies of the 3 credit reports. Once you receive them, just start asking questions here. You've found the greatest credit resource on and off the web.

    1. Order all three reports.
    Equifax (EQ) 800-685-1111
    Experian (EX) 888-397-3742
    Trans Union (TU) 800-916-8800

    2. Once you receive them, highlight the derogs that
you plan to dispute. Document inaccuracies - not
    mine, never late, etc.

    3. What I wished I had realized before, but I know
now..I got the CA (Collection Agency) fax number,
and address, as well as the credit desk of a credit
card (CC), I submitted letters that you will see
in the sample letter formum for them to validate.
Simultaneously, I dsputed directly with CRAs. On
my first dispute I sent my disputes via mail CRR
    (Certified Return Receipt)

    4. EQ and EX allow you to use their websites to enter
    online disputes.

    5. Be persistent and organized.

    6. See what happens in 30 days.

Now another board members want to help this new one out. That's what we are all here for afterall.

Thanks a ton for the info. Is there anyway to get these credit reports free? I was looking at the Equifax website and it looks like they charge for this info.

Oh, I also forgot to ask. I was an idiot and have late payments and such...should I even try to dispute these?

Check out Experian (www.experian.com) and TransUnion (www.transunion.com). They ask a few credit questions, but you can get your credit report online for free. Equifax will only mail the free report :-(

you know, the truly great thing about creditnet is the preface was quite unnecessary.

in answer to your question, do you want to get rid of them?

This will be difficult unless you have undeniable proof that you were NEVER LATE(otherwise you are just wasting your time).

wait a minute, sister, this is NOT true. I had a late removed & I didn't have proof, I couldn't even remember if I did or not... neither did the CC co, fortunately. So it's NEVER a waste of time! There is nothing wrong with, "I do not recall ever being late."

You were fortunate,& that is what we all hope for(that you can get the result in our favor).

However, I encourage ANYONE to dispute lates, but if you "know" that you were late.....depending on who you are up against....can come back to bite you.

How many people have had lates removed & reappear after "verification";sometimes companies remove them because of the demonstrated willingness to repay the debt(i.e....account kept current, double pymts to catch up,etc).

There are pros & cons to any situation that may go either way.

    Any other opinions ?

So what your saying it there's no harm in trying? I guess I'll give this all a shot and just keep my fingers crossed then. Thanks!
