I am confused on the laws. Say for instance I am in Michigan and I am moving to North Carolina, which states law would be used. I see that in NC is like 3 years (where they can get a judgment I mean), and Michigans I think is 6. Which state would they go by, the state that I resided in when signing the contract or the state that I would currently reside in?

Also, this is a charged off account. A collection agency now has it. Does the date change to the date that the collection agency got the debt?

    Thanks all :)

No they can't change the date. The other question - which state - is a complicated legal issue depending on the laws of the two states involved, and the wording of your original agreement.

Maybe the lawyers can chime in here.
