I have a Citibank account listed on my CR as in collections from 1996. I have not received any notices since. It has passed through several CA and is currently listed with Asset Acceptance and OSI on my CRs. Should I request validation or dispute first? Similar situation with account with Best Buy and Radioshack but accounts are charged off as bad debt. Should I dispute or request validation first and under what grounds do I dispute? Also how does one handle accounts listed as paid, past collection? Since I do not owe any money, I can't request validation or can I?

    Hi

I am currently dealing with Asset Acceptance Corp. and it is a charge off from CitiBank. It is from 1997. What I have done is send a validation. Last week actually and I am waiting to here back from them. What I did was use the Validation letters from here and I customized it. I pointed out the violations of FDCPA.

So, I am waiting to here from them. I haven't even received the green cards back from USPS.

If you do send anything, make sure you send it certified mail, return receipt requested.

My husband had an account with Asset Acceptance Corp. and all he did was dispute it with all 3 CRA's and it was deleted from all but TU, so hubby called TU and said he can't get a hold of anyone there and they deleted on the spot. Hope this helps.
