I want to make sure that I'm doing this correct because my success has been limited to this point.

Lets just say, now I have all three of my credit bureaus in front of me. Some bad stuff on them. What do I do? Where do I start and where do I go from there?

I've been reading through posts so this is what I gathered. Tell me if this is incorrect:

    1. Dispute with the original creditor or collection agency.

    2. when they fail to respond, dispute with credit bureau.

    3. Threaten to sue and demand a jury trial full of angry people who have to deal with Providian (j/k)

So basically, should I start with the letters to the creditors or to the bureaus is my question. Thanks.

you dispute with the credit bureaus first NOT the creditors.

Take your reports and highlight the negatives. Pick about 3-4 on each report and send out a dispute letter stating that the accounts "are not yours".

    Good luck!

I think that one should never lie to a credit bureau because it is illegal to do so.

While the possibility of prosecution is known to be extremely remote, it is still not a good idea to take chances like that.

Even if one never gets caught and prosecuted for lying to a credit bureau, there is still the issue of personal morals.

Just because it's easy to get away with it, it's still not the right thing to do.

I think you have chosen the right path both legally and morally.

Are you God or do you work for a CRA or CA?

I think this poster was stating what's known as an opinion.

Thats great. And it is in MY opinion that he isn't God, and works for either a cra or a ca. He sure knows a lot about how credit works. :) Either that or he is a lawyer. Sorry you caught me in one of my moods.

No need to argue and no one said anything about if the accounts were genuine or if they were mis-reported. Just for example, we'll say that its one account and it is not mine.

So I dispute it with the credit bureau and it comes back unchanged/verified.

I send a letter to the credit bureau wanting to know how they verified it???? (because I did that and 15 days later they sent be back a copy of my credit report that was the same as the one that I got with the dispute result - only difference being the cover page that said if I want to know how it was verified then to contact the creditor directly using the address that they have listed for them)

This is the point where I got lost.
