I recently disputed a charge off on my EX report along with other collections and a paid collection. The collections were deleted. The charge off is actually a settled account (less than full). Ex was showing a written off amount of about $2040, when in fact it is only $122. It read "Settlement accepted/ Written off amount $2040". It is the written off amount that I was disputing. After 30 days they sent me a short summary, not detailed just saying account remains and the other ones deleted. When I checked account with EX online, it reads "Paid settlement/Past due 120 days" . Then there is a statement that says "The item was verified on 10-2001 and remains unchanged" Remains unchanged? Well they removed a statement that says "Written off amount $2040" and replaced it with " Past due 120 days" and then added the statement that "item was verified on 10-2001 and remains unchanged" I don't like this at all. Firstly it means they did not verify and secondly it also makes difficult to dispute in the future. Anyone help please! I need a very good letter to send to these bozos.
Did you ask cra what procedure they used to verify? and if it is paid off, will ca refuse to validate it? You can send cra a letter asking for procedures they used to verify... they have 15 days to respond to you... However, i would try with the ca. It is already paid so can you get somewhere there to cooperate with you? Will they send a UDF to cra saying paid settled ? I don't know , I used that on a small collection account that was paid and ended up getting the whole thing deleted.
If I read your post right, it was actually a charge off and you were disputing the amount that was ACTUALLY charged off. Now the updated one says paid settlement/past due 120 days. Ok I had the same thing happen to me. DONT FIGHT IT!! 120 days late helped my score (very little) but it looks better than a paid charge off. Charge off is more than 180 days late. The "item verified on 10-2001 and remains unchanged" just means you can't dispute it online, you'd have to do snail mail. *I* wouldn't stir anything up. Do you have CE? If so, did your score go up at all? KHM
