I have a Visa and am thinking about getting a MC with the same bank.

Can you merge a Visa and MC into one account if they are with the same bank?

I know you can with Cap1 for sure...so I would imagine you can with others as well...

Love its the policy of the specific bank on doing this, so you need to tell us which bank so we can offer advice.

Merging credit isn't necessarily thought as merging to the banks. Cap 1 and Citibank consider it more along the lines of:

    1. Close #1 account.
    2. Increase #2 Credit limit by #1 credit limit.
    3. Transfer balances from #1 to #2.

So in traditional sense, its not a "merge".

    Cap 1 is pretty cool.

    This is what they do.

    Close Card #1 ..
Increase Card #2 credit increase by Card #1.
(this is a true increase and will reset your 6 month clock)

Lastly, Cap 1 will not transfer the balances from card #1. So you'll basically be able to pay off #1 at your own leisure (albeit closed status) and have the increase on Card #2 available.

    Was that totally clear?

When I combined both Capital One Visa's,they transferred all balances to the remaining card;just make certain you ASK before you combine(should automatically go to card with better rate).

    Best wishes,
