Will MBNA merge a CheckMate/GoldOption LOC into a Platinum or a Quantum CC? I just foolishly said "yes" to an MBNA telemarketer who wanted me to apply for a CC over the phone. I also told them that I'm unemployed. This will be interesting... RM
I think someone else did this, but I'm not sure. Oddly, I have quantum, but on my credit reports, it is reported as checkmate.
CheckMate seems to be the marketing name for one of MBNA's LOC products. There's a fee of 3 or 4% for all advances and the interest rate is so-so. I realize that their CC products are no better in this regard but at least I'd have a 3rd major credit-card that I could use when I encounter a retailer that won't accept Amex and when I've stuck my Citi in a sock drawer because I've taken advantage of a BT promo. I have 15.8k on that CheckMate LOC and have never used it. Not once in the 1.5 years I've had it. It's my newest tradeline other than an auto re-fi, so killing it off won't bother me. RM
