electric company dispute

Found out that our electric company has 2 entries on my husband's credit report. One says that we were 1/60 and 1/90 and that is a bold face lie and one for paid each month no problem. I called them to ask about this stuff and the customer service woman said that according to her records we were late and have many failed payment agreements (budget billing agreements). I told her that the failed payment agreements were because whenever I would set one up so that we could have the same bill each month, they would miss-bill us and then we would have to call in to set it up again. How should I go about disputing this with TU? I want to get this thing off. So what if when I talk to someone else up there at the electric company, their collections department, and they say that it stays on? I appreciate any comments in forming a gameplan.

Sorry I do not have an answer for you, unless you paid by check you can show proof of payment. My company sends me something stating that the bill is in dispute, so if yours does, send that.

If not, just keep disputing with the CRA hopefully you will get lucky. Thank goodness my telephone company doesn't report. I pay when they send shut offs. Electric I am a little better at, but not much. Maybe that is because I know they don't report.

yeah, this company sucks. I guess if I hadn't paid them each month I wouldn't be so upset. Does anyone besides me live in a utility reporting area?

Contact your state's utility regulatory authority and describe the problem to them.

Ask them if they would like to keep getting a check from you each month?

Right, like she is going to go without electricity because of this? If you don't send the check each month they cut your power off.

Is it not funny though with some of these utility companies that you can pay them on time for years and no mention of this is on your credit report. Late one time and BAM. Seems to me like it should work both ways.

Why pay them hundreds a year for trashing your credit. They have a monopoly-they don't need to report to get paid. ---

once my elect. co. was throwing every check i paid them in an unused desk in a storage room instead of crediting them.
Good thing they weren't reporting back then or I would have had 4000 lates in 15 seconds lised on my reports.

Great idea lkh I never thot of that.
Just plug it into a tree on your own property.
    Saves bugging the neighbor.

Just wondering, but what state(s) are these electric utilities in?! I find it bizarre that utilities are reporting on credit reports. I guess it's their choice, but I still find it unusual.

We have a rinky-dink rural electric cooperative, so who knows. All I know is that ours will literally send someone out to disconnect your service if you pay them more than 15 days late (I know, because years ago we had a payment lost in the mail and poof- the disconnect guy showed up. I was mad and got it stopped). We're in Texas.

Next thing we know the newspaper that doesn't get here half the time will report. I'll dispute that if they can get it in my driveway then I'll pay it! (I pay it anyway and just request credits when I can't find it in the yard)
